About Us
Small size and charming appearance made miniature rabbits very popular as pets. They are especially loved by children. It is hard to wonder, because they look like small, fluffy balls. Thanks to their gentleness and the fact that they are easy to get used to, they are ideal as pets even for younger children. However, we must remember that taking care of this ear-topped animal is not the easiest. It requires quite a lot of attention and care.
Choosing the right house for your bunny
The first step after deciding to take in a miniature rabbit should be to choose the right cage for it. This breed usually reaches a size of about 30-35 centimeters. It has become quite common to believe that because of its small size, this breed does not need a large cage. However, this is the wrong approach.
They require much more space than it might seem. Rabbits belong to busy creatures that need a large dose of physical activity. Even if we regularly let your pet out of the cage and keep him moving around the house or garden, we should provide him with a cage that is at least one meter long. However, it is known – the bigger, the better and more comfortable for our earnest friend.
Rabbit cage equipment
If we have managed to buy a cage of the right size, we should also take care of its equipment. The necessary elements include a water container and a haystack. The animal should have unlimited access to them. It is best to opt for those made of metal or ceramics. Unlike their plastic counterparts, they are resistant to biting. If the cage is large enough, you should think about buying a wooden house where the pet will have its safe shelter.
Remember that the rabbits are not designed to run in a reel, so it will be an unnecessary purchase. When buying accessories, it is worth following the rule: the less plastic, the better. In this way, our rabbit will not be able to get hurt by bitten pieces of plastic and will not be exposed to the negative impact of plastic on its health.
Location of the cage for the rabbit
The location of the cage is as important as its equipment. It should be located in a place that gives us free access to it. This way, hygienic activities and feeding will not be a problem. In addition, the cage should not be placed close to a heat source or in the draught. A poor choice is also the kitchen, where there are frequent changes in temperature and humidity.
The right diet for a rabbit
Taking care of a lamb rabbit also means providing it with high quality food. If our rabbit will have access to a good diet, it will enjoy good health and long life. The basis of nutrition is of course hay, which contains a large amount of fiber and helps in digestion. In addition, the rabbits rub their teeth on it, which is extremely important. Access to hay should therefore be unlimited.
The same as for fresh and clean water. Due to the delicate stomach of this species, all new foods should be introduced gradually and slowly, so as not to harm the animal. Good quality ready mixes and granules are quite a good solution because they contain a composition of all the necessary nutrients. However, it is also worthwhile to diversify the pet’s diet with fresh and dried herbs, vegetables, fruits or unpeeled tree branches.
What else to remember when taking care of a rabbit?
It is very important in taking care of a thumbnail rabbit not only to provide it with proper and comfortable living conditions, but also to have company and good veterinary care. It is also worth knowing that rabbits do not like to be carried on their hands. Their spine and bones are extremely delicate, so if this is not necessary, do not lift the animal.
However, if we notice something disturbing in his behavior, let’s immediately make an appointment to the clinic to check the health of the animal.
